What can you do except for expressing dissatisfaction or annoyance about something or trying to crib someone else? Try following tips on how to manage common mistakes at workplace.

Accept Responsibility

Own the mistake committed by you and take responsibility for your actions. At work, we are perceived by our attitude towards taking up the responsibility. Blaming others will not help you in any way, in fact it will result in increased mistrust and this should be avoided at all costs. Therefore, it’s always advisable to rectify your mistakes as soon as possible.

Keep Conflicts as “Healthy Conflicts”

Conflict is something which is inevitable at work place. Concerns arise when your conflict is with someone who is in a position of authority and can dearly affect your career. In such case you need to as these important question to your own self:

  • Is your job important or the fact that you want to win the argument is important?
  • Can you afford a set back at this stage of your career?
  • Do you believe that what you believe in as truth is actually true?

Think Before You Speak

When you plan to bring something to your boss’s knowledge, stop, take a deep breath, think and rehearse what you actually want to say. Plan your conversation and gather your facts. By doing this you will be better prepared and would not overreact. Never ever storm into boss’s office and say what is coming first to your mind. Remember your aim should not be to score an ace, rather find an amicable solution.

Institute Positive Relationships

Since you normally spend 8-10 hours a day at work. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to create a positive and healthy relationship with your colleagues at work. No doubt your work always illuminates but it is also important to have allies who have faith in your skills and abilities and speak well for you. This will increase your cross section visibility to the top management.

Know Your Role

Well defined and clearly demarcated roles leads you to work productively without any doubts popping into your mind. An ill-defined and ambiguous role always leads to inefficiency & uncertainty and brings mistakes to the work. If for any reasons you are not communicated about what is expected of you, go and ASK. Ask until you are absolutely sure of your role, objectives of the tasks assigned and their required output.

Stay Focused at Your Work & Avoid Waffle

Indecisiveness and waffling costs the most at work and should be avoided. This will expose you for the wrong reasons. Avoid these by trying to stick to the main object and focus the important areas of the problem. Stop your area of scan from derailing to unnecessary details. This will help you concentrate on the big issue and effective time management.
